Coldingham Loch, which is 22 acres in extent, forms the focal point of the estate. It is one of the oldest-established trout fisheries in Scotland and offers top class fly fishing for brown, blue and rainbow trout. Regularly stocked throughout the season this 'managed' fishery has a reputation for the quality of its fast growing trout. The season extends from March to November. Apart from Coldingham Loch there are also opportunities to fish for salmon and trout on the river Tweed, with its tributaries the Teviot, Yarrow, Ettrick, Leader and Whiteadder. Sea Fishing is available from the rocks or by boatfrom St Abbs, Eyemouth and Dunbar.
There are pleasant drives through the Lammermuir Hills and along the Tweed Valley with the many attractive Border towns and villages to visit. The coastline provides dramatic scenery and some interesting features. Nearby are the quaint old fishing ports and seaside resorts of Dunbar and Eyemouth.
Within easy reach are many historic sites including the old walled town of Berwick upon Tweed, Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne Priory, on Holy Island and the historic Border Abbeys of Kelso, Dryburgh, Melrose and Jedburgh. Stately homes open to the public include Mellerstain, Floors Castle, Manderston, Bowhill and Alnwick Castle. There are also many other castles, kirks and peels in the area. including Coldingham Priory, dating from the 13th century and now used as the parish church. Alternatively an enjoyable day may be spent walking through Kielder Forest in Northumberland where the Forestry Commission has laid out nature trails. Edinburgh is only 45 miles away for shopping and sightseeing.
Ornithologists and Naturalists would enjoy the nearby sea bird cliffs at St Abbs Head Wildlife Reserve, which is also of botanical interest. Visits to the Holy Island and Budle Bay Wildfowl Refuge for observing wildfowl and wading birds or to the Bass Rock and Farne Islands to see the seabird colonies and seals are also well worthwhile. Additionally, the Westloch House Estate and Coldingham Loch form a sanctuary for many migratory and resident birds.
Other activities include Bathing at the nearby beaches of Coldingham Bay or Pease Bay, or the heated indoor swimming pools at Eyemouth, Berwick upon Tweed and Dunbar. Riding is available at East Linton, Cornhill and Berwick. Shooting and Stalking can also be arranged on neighbouring estates. There are 18-hole Golf courses at Eyemouth and Duns and many famous courses along the shores of the Firth of Forth are less than an hour's drive away.
